Our K-5 Program at AGORA has so much to offer each and every student! Every student is assigned to a grade level specific teacher who will offer standards based synchronous sessions in Math and Lanaguage Arts Monday through Friday. Science/History will be taught through Language Arts sessions. Your classroom teacher should be your primary point of contact for all academic needs.
In addition to the classroom teacher, each student is assigned to a Family Coach or a Community Cooridnator who will assist with non-academic needs and attend local Agora events.
We believe in individualized instruction and offer a variety of resources and programs to ensure that every child is reaching his/her maximum potential. Below are some of the highlights:
-2 paths for learning. Students will either be identified as asynchronous or synchronous learners based on their
individual data. Please contact your classroom teacher to discuss your student's path at any time. All new students begin on a synchronous path so that they can acclimate to our model and we can ensure that they will be succesful online learners.
- ILPs for every student (Individualized Learning Plans). This document will outline the path that will enable each student to reach his/her maximum potential. It will consist of the expectations for each student based on his/her strengths and weaknesses. Teachers will share these documents with all learning coaches. These paths can and should change as data is collected.
- Exciting, engaging supplemental programs to serve as enrichment or remediation as needed. This year we are excited to offer Reading Eggs, Reading Eggspress and Education City. Students may work in these programs individually or the teacher may use them to enhance learning in the classroom.
-Study Island - the goal of Study Island is to earn Blue Ribbons on every topic. Blue Ribbons indicate proficiency on grade level standards. Teachers will utilize the Blue Ribbon data to drive instruction and meet the needs of the students in during synchronous sessions. Your classroom teacher will tell you which topics to focus on and attempt to earn blue ribbons in each week and month. There will be incentives for students to earn Blue Ribbons throughout the year!
-Face to Face Assessments three times a year. All K-5 students will attend a face to face assessment at a site near his/her home to demonstrate early numeracy and literacy skills. Teachers are geographically placed this year and our hope is that your child will have the opportunity to meet his or her classroom teacher. If this is not possible, your student will be assessed by another teacher on the team.
Teacher Schedules
-This year, our teachers will utilize a 6 day instructional cycle (Days 1-6) to maximize learning time and allow for appropriate enrichment and remediation to occur. As learning coaches/parents, you will be notified frequently of the day we are on, but as long as you follow your Class Connect Schedule on the Online School, you will be good to go! The Class Connect schedule will always keep you on track.
-Teachers will teach one Math session and one Language Arts session each day. These sessions will be based on PA Academic Standards AND will be linked to a specific lesson or lessons on the Online School. In addition, teachers will hold Target Time sessions beginning in mid October to help students with specific skills. Teachers are always available to help your child if he or she is struggling in an academic area. Again, please refer to your Class Connect schedule at all times to know what classes your student should be attending on any given day.
Health and PE:
-Learning coaches are responsible for ensuring that students complete state mandated physical education hours and health hours each academic year.
-Students in grades 3-5 will have a Physical Education Course during the first semester and a Health Course during the second semester. Completion of each lesson in those courses will satisfy the Health and PE requirement.
-Students in Grades K-2 will see a Physical Education course appear on their plan, completion of this course will satisfy the requirements for Health and PE.
Science, History, Art and Music:
-Science, History, Art and Music courses are one semester courses this year. Students will have Science and Music in the first semester and History and Art in the second semester.
